Original piston accumulators in automotive manufacturing are engineered to be sealed and replaced after their lifespan. The manufacturing process involves backfilling the accumulator with nitrogen via a gas valve into a gas chamber. The piston and piston seals function to separate the nitrogen from the hydraulic fluid. However, these seals gradually wear due to factors like the presence of foreign matter in the fluid, incompatible fluid and seal material, and incorrect back pressure.
In the aftermarket, suppliers have adopted the strategy of “rebuilding” the original accumulator to counter the need for purchasing a completely new one. The “rebuilding” process typically involves welding a new valve to the accumulator’s rear and reintroducing nitrogen into the gas chamber through the gas valve. However, this method doesn’t adequately address the primary wear conditions noted earlier.
